Founded in October 1985 by Tommy Sneyd and Dan Smith, Plus Print has been at the forefront of Ireland’s printing industry for nearly four decades. The two first crossed paths while working at the Guinness in-house printing plant on James Street. When Guinness decided to outsource its printing operations, Tommy and Dan seized the opportunity to establish their own business. Securing a unit in Glasnevin, Dublin’s first industrial estate, they acquired printing presses and finishing equipment from the Guinness plant. Leveraging their industry connections, they secured the contract to produce all of Guinness’s bottle labels and advertising posters, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey.
By 1988, with the introduction of the Guinness can, demand for bottle labels began to decline, prompting Plus Print to diversify. Recognising the need for change, Tommy’s son, Brian Sneyd, who joined the company in 1986 had strong ties to Dublin’s music scene, Brian expanded the business into the entertainment industry. Plus Print quickly became the go-to printer for Irish record labels promotors, musicians, and DJ’s producing everything from mixtape cassettes and club night flyers to posters, cassette sleeves, and VHS covers. The company worked with major artists such as The Dubliners, The Wolfe Tones, and Daniel O’Donnell and produced hundreds of thousands of VHS covers and CD singles for Riverdance, solidifying its reputation for quality and innovation.
In the early 1990s, Plus Print sought further growth and hired John Kenny, an experienced sales manager from a leading local print company. Joining in 1993, John brought in an array of new clients, including Lancôme, the Irish Aviation Authority, Gael Linn, O’Brien’s Wines and Ernst & Young. With this influx of new business and advancements in technology, Plus Print invested in digital printing, expanding its capabilities to include large format and short-run bespoke print projects.
The early 2000s marked another pivotal moment with the full-time addition of Ciaran Smith. Having gained hands-on experience in his father’s factory during his teenage years, Ciaran pursued a diploma in Print Management at Bolton Street. Initially working as an estimator and production manager, he later transitioned into sales, drawing on his creative background to build relationships with graphic design studios and artists. This led to a growing presence in the arts and culture sector, working with notable names such as Maser, Unthink, Red & Grey Design, CI Studio, Offset Festival and The Arts Council. Through a commitment to craftsmanship, Plus Print earned a strong industry reputation, attracting major brands with an eye for detail like Aldi, Irish Distillers, and Meta.
The 2010s saw Plus Print gaining industry-wide recognition. After learning that many of their clients were winning ICAD and other prestigious design awards for collaborative projects, the company began entering the Irish Print Awards. Showcasing innovative print techniques, premium finishes, and meticulous attention to detail, Plus Print earned the title of Irish Printer of the Year for three consecutive years, alongside numerous other annual accolades. Recognition from industry peers further cemented the company’s standing and led to new opportunities in the years ahead.
In the 2020s, Plus Print took a significant step toward expanding its wide-format printing capabilities by acquiring Diatec Digital, a well-established company in Blackpitts, Dublin 8. With a strong reputation in the industry, Diatec was an ideal fit, enabling Plus Print to offer additional services such as window graphics installation, exhibition displays,
and direct printing onto various materials while retaining the expertise of Diatec’s experienced team. In 2024, the two companies fully merged at Plus Print’s Glasnevin facility, positioning the business as a comprehensive, one-stop provider of high-quality print solutions.
Today, Plus Print continues to innovate and adapt, always looking for new ways to meet the evolving needs of clients across many different industries. With a strong foundation built on quality craftsmanship, creative solutions, and dedicated customer service, the company remains a leader in Ireland’s print industry. As a family-run business with generations of experience in the field, Plus Print brings a deep understanding to every project. They are committed to delivering exceptional print solutions that truly meet the needs of businesses, well-known brands, and individual creative professionals alike.
